That was for about a year, then they started falling apart. The screws weren't deep, then the coloring went, and the mold arrived, and I was thinking, "Shoot, we might as well burn them in the fire pit." Quite a pretty penny for an eyesore.
But, I did wipe them down with an air pressure hose and then, yesterday, I spent a large portion of the day sanding and restaining them, so they almost look new. I also began to reassemble the screws and figure out a way to make the wood more sustainable. I would think they would be much hardier than a couple of years (especially at the price I paid). I store them inside during the winter. Alas, they aren't. Perhaps that's why I dreamed we began an Adirondack chair-making consortium in my garage...extra cash for us all.
Trust me...the photo above is much better than they looked before I took a sander to them.
I also spent a large portion of Sunday patching holes in the deck where the wood is rotting away. I don't think I will be able to sustain the deck much longer, but I'm hoping this rendition will give me two more years before it all needs to be replaced.
Meanwhile, the carpenter bees (I'm not even going there)...let's just say it's an invasion and they are winning. There are too many and they are much too high to reach. Next will come the woodpeckers to eat the larvae. It's a life cycle, and I'm a part of it.
Holla, Monday. You're back again.
Here we go in 3...2...1
