In a Normal World, This is My Daily Commute to Work on I-95. It's Been 10 Months Since I've Returned (Sabbatical Helped) & I Was Shocked (No Traffic)

It's probably not something one should tap-dance or sing praises about. Yet, yesterday, returning to campus for the first time since March...sabbatical gave me an extra luxury...I had to take I-95 because the work required me to be there. I was apprehensive at first because it's been a while, but I made it there quickly, and after 6 hours, I returned even faster. I was like, "Where is everyone?" I'm used to planning ahead 60-120 minutes because much of Connecticut life is stalled with traffic delays. Not now. There's a perk to everyone working from home.

Note: The 14-hour day has returned, however....traffic or no traffic.

I loved that I had three lanes almost to myself. It was like back-country driving on wide, open roads (and it know this will change...there's no way it can last).

Meanwhile, I'm grooving and grinding back into the swing of things (all the never-ending work). At 11 p.m. last night, I finally decided to shut off for the day, realizing there's another 14 hours today, tomorrow, Thursday, Friday, and on and on and on). This is what I didn't miss while on sabbatical...the time commitment it takes to simply be mediocre in the profession.

Alas, I love everything I do, and I did get a run in at lunch. Today, however, I have to trade the run to walk Glamis the Wonder Dog. She was neglected yesterday.

I'm ready for the Jetsons space-mobiles, though if and when everything lifts again. I honestly never want to deal with I-95 traffic. What a blessing it is not to have so much time wasted on that road.

Civil engineers....I've issued you a challenge. Get to work.

And the Merritt was even better!
