When the Call Comes and We Know There Are Not Too Many Days Left, You Throw in the Towel and Go

I resisted the blue sky and sun as long as I could. Had to create an emergency syllabus for a course that needed an instructor and to find an instructor, so I was kind and created a syllabus to make the job more alluring. Success. Thanks, Dr. Richard Novack. Many more adventures to come.

So, in the afternoon, I joined the beach crowd so I could get one more day in the sun. The tide was going out, so we didn't do water sports and, well, I ain't doing any sports, anyway. We just relaxed.

Be proud, though. The temptation to mow my lawn was strong and even though it needs it, I sat still. This is so hard for me. I kept telling myself I could do it, but there's still enough remnants from the surgery to say, "Stay the $#$#$ away from anything over ten pounds, especially the lawnmower." The last thing I want to do is prolong this crazy thing more. I simply want it over with. But my grass needs mowing...I am a son of a Butch.

Tunga returns today from South Carolina and we are picking up a really nice dining set for his living room (thanks, Beth) - it's the type of set that will likely be with him for a very long time; same as the two I have from my grandparents (which, by the way, he currently has half-of, so we're swapping). Now, moving this with him shall be interesting as I'm not allowed to help. I'm also thinking we may need to rent a truck to get the entire set. He has, indeed, lucked out.

It was also good to see Kai yesterday who returned home from Brooklyn to join the Walnut Beach crowd.

I finished the night simply watching new episodes of Ted Lasso and feeling sorry for myself that I can't do anything physically productive. That show is the best. When I catch up on episodes I get frustrated there are no more to watch. Feel-good quality. Just love it.

And I'm wondering how we're suppose to carry forward this semester with teaching behind masks, especially when they report the percentages of vaccinated/unvaccinated students in each room. If the new faculty orientation is any indication of what that will be like it is a cacophony of "What did you just say?" - the masks muffle everything and it's hard to hear. I'm okay with Hollywood Squares ZOOM calls. They work just fine and dandy for me. Hoping that's what my students will vote for.

I have the morning and afternoon to work, then it's moving time for the furniture that I can't touch. It ought to be an interesting day! But we got this!
